Life is busy.  We are always running around working, getting tasks done, shopping, and we are all busy, busy, busy!  In the midst of being busy it’s important to slow things down and to take some time for you. Last month we talked about stress and I provided some deep breathing strategies to help with stress relief.  This month we are focusing on slowing down continuing to works towards a relaxed and stress free life!

Everyone is different in how they manage stress and being busy.  Some people write lists. Sometimes these current strategies are effective and sometimes they are not.  Let’s go over a few things that you can put in to action in order to slow down and to continue to relieve stress in your life.

If you aren’t a list person, try making a list of things “to do” each day. Look at that list and number the “tasks” starting with 1 being the most important and go down from there. At the beginning of the day, starts with your #1 task first and only do what you can do, even if the list is not complete.  That way your most important “task” will get done! Additionally, when you finish a task, check it off or cross if off of your list.   Being able to physically do this can help provide a sense of accomplishment!

When you schedule your day, schedule in several blocks of “meeting” time with yourself. Take 10-15 minutes to go for a walk, to have a cup of coffee or tea, or to sit and read a book. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and have some time of slowing down and reflection.

Try to plan a day of the week with nothing scheduled.  Block the day off (or even half day) as “time for rest” and see where the day takes you.  It’s nice to have time without meetings or dates where you can be flexible and go with the flow.

Lastly, try to get to bed an extra 10 minutes early at night.  Take this extra time to breathe deeply and to reflect on the day and the positive aspects. Close your eyes. Try to rest your mind. Your body will thank you!

There are so many things you can do in order to slow down your pace in life but I hope that you enjoyed reading these and I hope that you will try to put one or two of them in to action this month!
